You’ve reached MISS POLLYS
on an old mill pond of the Woonasquatucket River in North Providence, RI.
an old mill pond that happens to be also an active EPA Superfund reclamation site where 156,000 cubic tons of dioxins and chemicals that ended up on the bottom of the pond fifty years ago are now being dug up and disposed of correctly. I cannot adequately express how blessed I feel to be here. It is everything I love: nature. politics. science. and community. We’ve got swans, otter, geese, multi ducks turtles, raccoons, otters, hawks and two bald eagles. And the streetlights in Johnston-across the pond create dappled light on the pond every evening. It’s a Rhode Island idyll.
I love it and love to tell its stories. The Woony ‘s route to RI Lore and Lure as the River Fire has several histories. And the latest one is birthing right now.
From ‘A Place to Come To’ by Robert Penn Warren:
“Something is going on and will not stop. You are outside the going on, and yet you are, at the same time, inside the going on. In fact, the going on is what you are … “
